A boy who fell from a tree after attacked by insects, was left with a meat skewer embedded in his skull

News24xx.com -  A 10-year-old boy who fell from a tree while being attacked by insects was left with a meat skewer embedded in his skull. 

Xavier Cunningham was sitting in his tree house at his home in Harrisonville, Missouri, when a flock of insects attacked him. He fell to the ground and started to scream, causing his mum Gabrielle Miller run to help him.

But tragic, his skull was pierced from front-to-back and the skewer was sticking out of his face. Fortunately, the Xavier’s eye, brain, spinal cord and major blood vessels not have big problem. The Kansas City Star reports on Sept. 13 2018, his mum tried to reassure him that he would be okay but he kept saying: ‘I’m dying mum’

Xavier was rushed to hospital where endovascular neurosurgery director Koji Ebersole evaluated the wound.

dr. Ebersole said, "You couldn’t draw it up any better. It was one in a million for it to pass 5 or 6 inches through the front of the face to the back and not have hit these things."

As there was no active bleeding, it allowed the hospital to prepare for a removal surgery on Sunday morning.

However, the surgery was complicated. Luckily, the skewer was successfully removed, with the doctor describing it as ‘miraculous’. 

dr Ebersole, thinks that Xavier may recover completely.
