News24xx.com - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied President Joko Widodo, said that the government had asked Vietnam to make it easier for Indonesian car exports.

The issue of car exports to Vietnam is sticking out after a bilateral meeting between the two countries at Vietnam Presidential Palace, Hanoi, Tuesday, September 11th 2018.

Airlangga in his official press release on Thursday, September 13th 2018, said, "A review of double inspection policy for automotive. This request will be followed up so that Indonesian car exports to Vietnam can return to normal."

Previously, Vietnam implemented an import policy for completely built up (CBU) cars from ASEAN countries. Vietnam applies policies related to type testing and emissions testing through Regulation No. 116/2017 / ND-CP (Decree on Requirements for Manufacturing, Assembly and Import of Motor Vehicles and Trade in Motor Vehicle Warranty and Maintenance Services). The policy of non-tariff requirements will disturb car exports from Indonesia to Vietnam, and tarnish the value of the cooperation between the two countries.

Airlangga said the number of cars produced in Indonesia would be sent to Vietnam in large numbers, or around 30,000 units to 40,000 units per year from the total national car exports. While total shipments totaled 225,000 units per year.

However, from the data available in the period January-July 2018, Indonesia's car exports to Vietnam were only around 1,528 units.
