News24xx.com - When you have a runny nose there are those who think that milk should not be consumed because it can produce the snot in your nose excessively. Is that true? Researchers from UK tried to answer it by conducting a study analysis.

Pulmonary expert Dr. Ian Balfour-Lynn from Royal Brompton Hospital analyzed data from previous studies. Dr. Ian found that no one had succeeded in proving that milk can make the produce of snot becoming more and thicker.

Specific studies in 1948 showed that the mucus in the respiratory tract does not increase after consuming milk. The possibility is that the content of emulsions in milk makes saliva taste thicker and then confused with snot.

"Saliva viscosity that occurs after drinking milk can be what makes people believe that milk can increase snot production" said Dr. Ian as quoted from Live Science, Sunday, September 9th 2018. "Myths related to snot and milk need to be straightened out by health professionals."

By reducing the consumption of milk due to belief in myth, someone is even at risk of experiencing a lack of essential nutrients. Milk is an important source of calcium for children and vitamins for adults.

"Adequate calcium intake is important for healthy bone growth and prevent osteoporosis in the future. One study looked at 50 children who avoided shorter body milk consumption with less dense bones compared to 200 children who drank milk" concluded Dr. Ian.
