News24xx.com - PMI, a organization engaged in social humanitarian sector, was established under the name Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). Which does not favor political, racial, ethnic, or particular religion. On its implementation, PMI puts forward victims who need help as soon as possible for the safety of the soul of the victim.

The 73rd commemoration of PMI, which was born on September 17th, 1945, was a joint agreement with officials in Indonesia and Minister of Health Dr. Buntaran Martoatmojo along with other doctors and health officials.

Actually, quoted from PMI's website, this body which is engaged in social humanity has been around since the colonial era. On October 21, 1873, the Dutch Colonial Government established a red cross in Indonesia under the name Het Nederland-Indiche Rode Kruis (NIRK). Over time, this name changed to Nederlands Rode Kruiz Afdelinbg Indie (Nerkai).

The desire of the Indonesian people to set up their own redcross appeared later. In 1932, two Indonesians named RCL Senduk and Bahder Djohan made a proposal submitted to Nerkai. However, their proposals were both rejected.

During the Japanese occupation, this body was officially dissolved. The proposal was submitted again, but the results were null because the plan was rejected again. It was only after the proclamation of independence that there was a plan to form again by President Soekarno to form it.

Then, on September 3, 1945, President Soekarno again initiated the re-establishment of PMI. And Buntaran gets a mandate to reshape PMI.

Finally, Buntaran formed a committee to finalize this plan consisting of five doctors, namely Dr. R Mochtar, Dr. Bahder Johan, Dr. Joehana, Dr. Marjuki, and Dr. Sitanala. They are the ones preparing the establishment of this humanitarian body.

On September 17, 1945, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) was formed. Vice President Mohammad Hatta became the first chairman of this humanitarian body. Until now, the event was known as PMI Day.

Because in one country only allowed one association, then after the Round Table Conference (KMB) and the recognition of sovereignty by the Dutch, the Dutch Government dissolved Nerkai.

Nerkai assets are given to PMI through handover events. Nerkai was represented by Dr. B Van Trich while from PMI was represented by Dr. Bahder Djohan.

PMI continued to provide assistance until the Government of the Republic of Indonesia United States issued Presidential Decree No. 25 dated January 16, 1950 and was strengthened by Presidential Decree No. 246 dated November 29, 1963.

The Indonesian government also acknowledges the existence of PMI.

The main task of PMI is based on RIS Presidential Decree Number 25 of 1950 and RI Presidential Decree Number 246 of 1963 is to provide first aid to victims of natural disasters and war victims in accordance with the contents of the 1949 Geneva Convention.

On June 15, 1950, the existence of PMI was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). After that, PMI was accepted as a member of the 68th national association by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in October 1950.

The current PMI, according to PP PMI Decree No: 176 / KEP / PP PMI / X / 2010, PMI Headquarters has 14 divisions / bureaus / units covering.

As many as 14 divisions / bureaus / units are: Institutional Division, Disaster Management Division, Health Division, Volunteer Division, Cooperation and Resource Development Division, Planning and Legal Bureau, Personnel Bureau, Finance Bureau.
