Volkswagen decided to stop the mass production of its famous product, Beetle

News24xx.com - Although still in demand by consumers, Volkswagen (VW) remains on its decision to stop the production of its iconic model, the Beetle. This is because in 2019, VW will present two special editions welcoming the cessation of the production of the model.

 

Both Beetle variants were taken from the third generation which was first presented in 2011. Both will be born from the Volkswagen production line in Mexico. Reported from Autocar.co.uk, quoted from Otomotif.com (18/9).

 

The name for the two special models is the Final Edition SE and the Final Edition SEL.

 

Various updates and changes are embedded in these two variants, including in the application of special colors. Exclusive additional features are also given to both models and interior trim that are not found in the usual car models.

 

"The loss of the Beetle after three generations, almost seven decades, will make Beetle fans feel moved," said the CEO of the American Volkswagen Group, on Monday (17/9).

 

"After we move to automotive manufacturers that focus more on family cars and welcome the strategy to enter electric vehicles, there is no plan to replace the Beetle," said Hinrich Woebcken.

 

Woebcken revealed that this was not the end of the Beetle. "It's possible in the future to return to a car that became the forerunner of a new Beetle," he said.

 

The Beetle itself was created in the early 1930s with the first production in 1938 and continues to be produced until 2003. A more modern New Beetle was introduced in 1997 which uses the VW Golf platform with sales figures in recent years continuing to decline.

 

Volkswagen itself had shown the concept of electric vehicles named Buzz Electric ID. This concept takes the form of VW Type 2 Transporter which was present in 1949. This model is expected to be produced in the next 2022.
