News24xx.com - The United States Law Department indicted Park Jin-hyok, a North Korean programmer for a number of cyber attack that had occurred, one of which is WannaCry ransomware which had a scene in 2017.

Park Jin-hyok, who is believed to be in North Korea, acts on the orders of the North Korean government, at least that is what US believes. In addition to WannaCry, Park was also referred to relate to the hacking of Sony Pictures servers, and the theft of USD 81 million from Bangladesh Bank.

US believes Park works for a North Korean hacker group called Lazarus Group, which has tried to break down the security systems of a number of US companies, including Lockheed Martin, who is a US military contractor.

According to prosecutors, Park was part of a large conspiracy over the past years carried out by the North Korean government. Of course the most imprinted is WannaCry ransomware, which damages computer systems in 150 countries.

This is the first time US Law Department has charged a hacker which they believe from North Korea. In the past few years, US has been tracking hackers from China, Iran and Russia, with the aim of humiliating these countries for supporting cyber attacks on US companies.

But US indictment against Park cannot be processed further because US does not have an extradition treaty with North Korea, as quoted from ABC, Friday, September 7th 2018.
