Bear attacked couple who tapping rubber in their plantation in Kuantan Singingi regency

News24xx.com - A married couple in Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province was attacked by a bear when they were tapping rubber in their own plantation. The bear attacked the husband, Abu Hanifah (56), first. His wife, Lastri (42), tried to help him, but got attacked as well. “Right now, Abu Hanifah is brought to Teluk Kuantan Regional Public Hospital to get treatment, while Lastri is hospitalized in Baserah Public Health Center,” said the head of Kuantan Singingi police department, Fibri Karpiananto, on Thursday, October 11th.

 

The married couple lives in Tratak Baru Village, Kuantan Hilir District, Kuantan Regency. Fibri said that they were tapping rubber peacefully that day, Wednesday, October 10th, on 09:30 a.m. Suddenly, the bear came and attacked.
 

“Abu Hanifah was attacked by the bear very fast, and his face and eyes were damaged. Seeing her husband being attacked, the victim’s wife, Lastri, tried to chase away the bear that attacked her husband. But the bear then turned to attack her as well,” Fibri explained.

The attack caused Abu’s face to be torn while Lastri suffered wound on her left thigh. Another farmer, Riko, who worked next to the couple’s plantation, heard their scream for help. Meanwhile, the bear quickly left the location. “Riko then called for Amri, the victim’s nephew, to help him carry them to hospital,” he added.
