News24xx.com -  A medical aid worker who was held hostage in Nigeria since March by militant groups was killed after the deadline for their release ended. This was said by the Nigerian government.

Three aid workers, Hauwa Mohammed Liman, Alice Loksha and Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa, were working in the city of Rann when they were abducted by the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA). Khorsa, a member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), was killed last September.

Claims made in exchange for the release of hostages have not been reported.

The Nigerian Information Ministry, in a statement sent e-mail on Monday, did not confirm who was killed, besides saying they were aid workers. However, the president later said on Twitter, Information Minister Lai Mohammed sympathized with the Hauwa Liman family and noted that the Federal Government did everything in its power to save his life.

"We are very saddened by this murder, just as with the recent killings of first aid workers. However, we will keep negotiations open and continue working to free innocent women who remain in custody of their kidnappers, "information minister Mohammed said in a statement quoted by Sindonews, quoting Reuters on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

The militants said in a video posted online last month that they would kill at least one hostage after Monday's deadline had passed.

The video also refers to student Leah Sharibu (15) who was kidnapped in February from her school in the city of Dapchi.

Liman works in a hospital that is supported by the ICRC and Loksha as nurses at the center supported by UNICEF.

Meanwhile, the ICRC is calling on survivors to be saved because of deadlines that are approaching.
