According to study, human brain can memorize more than 10,000 faces

News24xx.com - How many face can you remember? If you count from people in the neighborhood and those on your smartphone screen you might be able to remember hundreds. But according to researchers actually our brain can store memories of up to 10,000 people.

The study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences for the first time tries to find the exact number of maximal faces that humans can remember. The method is through a small survey of 25 participants aged 18-61 years.

The participants were asked to recognize photographs of celebrities and people around them without having to name them. The results revealed that participants could recognize an average of 5,000 faces to the highest of around 10 thousand.

Psychologist Rob Jenkins of the University of York who was involved in the study said studies like this are important to know the capacity of the human brain."It's interesting to know whether there is a peak age where we can recognize people's faces. Can our brain storing a lot of facial memories as we get older or even forget about them" Rob said as quoted by Live Science on Wednesday, October 17th 2018.

"What is clear is at this time we still do not know the maximal face that the human brain can remember" he continued. Only for some people with facial blindness or prosopagnosia, the brain's ability to store this information may be impaired.
