News24xx.com -  Werur Airport in Tambrauw, West Papua is one of the projects built by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) in the 2015-2018 period. The airport has now been completed. This airport has a high historical value.

The airport that was worked on by the Ministry of Transportation together with the Tambrauw Regency government, West Papua province, was referred to as the legacy of World War II, and transformed into a pioneer aviation airport.

"It's quite strategic, if we look at this airport the second world war relics. He is dealing with the Pacific Ocean. For me laymen, this airport is very feasible. There's nothing wrong with developing this airport in the future. It will be even bigger. This is with Raja Ampat next door. " Tambrauw Regent Gabriel Assem said at the Ministry of Transportation office, Jakarta, September 22, 2014.

Gabriel said, Tambrauw district government was unable to develop this airport using APBD funds. That is why the central government was asked to help develop the airport in the district not far from the Raja Ampat area.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation who was also the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Santoso Edi Wibowo at the time, said that the airport was built in 2015.

The central government builds the air side such as runway, taxi way, ATC, and other technical aspects. While the district government is tasked with preparing land and building terminal buildings.

The second World War relic airport became an alternative airport to Raja Ampat, West Papua, and to spur local economic growth.

"This infrastructure is very important in order to encourage smooth access, especially in the field of air transportation in all existing communities. To spur economic growth, especially in Tambrauw district," Gabriel added.
