News24xx.com - Palestine is chosen to be the leader of a group of 77 developing countries at the United Nations, allowing them to act almost like permanent members. Reuters reports that Palestine is chosen by voting at the UN headquarters, where they won 146 votes. Meanwhile, 15 countries abstained, three countries refused.

The three countries that reject the Palestine nomination are United States, Israel and Australia. "We strongly oppose the appointment of Palestine as chairman of the G77 and the resolution that allows it. Only permanent UN members can speak and act as representatives of groups within the United Nations" Deputy US Ambassador to the United Nations, Jonathan Cohen.

So far, Palestinian membership in the UN has always been a problem. Initially, the status of Palestine is as a monitoring country within the United Nations.

In 2012, UN General Assembly passed de facto recognition of Palestine as a sovereign country so that its status was raised to a non-member state, such as the Vatican. With this status, Palestinians can join a number of General Assembly voting and join several international bodies.
