News24xx.com -  Every year college students in Scotland have a unique tradition of welcoming their juniors. They will makes the foam war while wearing unique costumes!

Every year, there is a tradition that cannot be missed by new students at St Andrews University in Scotland. The tradition is called 'Raisin Monday'.

Reported by detikTravel from BBC, Wednesday (10/31/2018), Raisin Monday is a hereditary tradition inherited by the seniors of St Andrews University. St Andrews University itself has been established since 1410 or about 5 centuries ago.

In the old days, the new St Andrews students would give gifts to the 'academic parents' aka their senior sisters. This prize is 1 pound (0.45 kg) of raisins given to third and fourth year students.

This raisin is given as a thank you to the juniors for the seniors who have welcomed and guided them when they first entered the University of St Andrews. Instead, the seniors will provide receipts written in Latin.

This tradition is usually held a week after the campus orientation period, or what we know as OSPEK. Well, if there are new students who fail in the orientation period, then they will be watered or even put into a fountain.

Year after year, the Raisin Monday tradition evolved until we know it now. Raisins are replaced with bottles of wine, while the tradition of flushing water fountains is replaced with a foam war. The foam used is usually foam to shave the mustache.
