News24xx.com - Portugal will officially ban circus activities that use wildlife such as lions, tigers, zebras, elephants, and dozens of other species on any basis in 2024. The regulation has been approved by both parliamentarians, both left and right wing. The official rules will soon be passed by the Portuguese parliament.

"Parliament finally realized that a larger enclosure, more stringent rules and controls could not be the solution to the problem of these animals" said PAN member Andre Silva, as quoted from Phys.

Circus owners are given until 2024 to register the existence of their wild animals to the Portuguese government. Later these animals will be placed in wildlife sanctuary in Portugal or abroad. Circus professionals who agreed to give their circus animals before the end of the transition period, promised assistance and benefits to change their profession.
