Scientist reveals the real reason why baby is kicking in the stomach of their mother

IllustrationIllustration - The phenomenon of a baby kicking in the stomach is known as a fetal movement. According to a recent study, this is the mechanism experienced by babies to map their bodies before born into the world.

The movement, according to scientists from University College London (UCL) allows the baby's brain to construct tissues in the brain. Construction is needed so that later the baby is able to understand which body parts are moving.

This spatial mapping process lasts only until the baby is born. In the last few days in the womb, the same movements do not have the same effect on the brain."The fundamental aspect of touch is immediately useful at birth for suckling-like abilities" said Kimberley Whitehead, a doctoral student at UCL who conducted the study, quoted from LiveScience.

This finding has implications for clinical care of newborn baby. Including for premature babies, doctors need to think about the right way to wrap it so that the mechanism continues. The study was published in the journal Scientific Reports.
