Friedman added that the selection of new colors in Office reflects bolder, lighter, and friendlier to show that the world of work has evolved. "We also use gestalt principles to emphasize major product changes. Simplicity and harmony are the main visual elements that reflect seamless and intuitive connectivity of Office applications" he said.

Applications that get new icons include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, OneNote, SharePoint, Tim, Yammer, and Skype. Although it looks new and more modern, Microsoft maintains its distinctiveness. As a result, users can immediately recognize the new icon for each application.
