In the operation, the leader  named Settimo Mineo (80) was also arrested. "This arrest is one of the efforts to disclose the biggest mafia in Italy. Mineo was chosen to replace Toto Riina the previous leader who died" Deputy Interior Minister Luigi Di Maio said.

According to the official's explanation, Mineo was elected to replace Riina on May 29 through an election by the mafia 'family heads'. During this time he runs a jewelry business. Local law enforcement suspects that the Cosa Nostra group in Sicily tried to back on the surface again after 25 years, especially after Riina died in prison while serving his sentence.

Salvatore 'Toto' Riina was jailed for more than 25 years for ordering a number of murders. The target includes two public prosecutors. Mineo was sentenced to 5 years in prison for being involved in a crime committed by the mafia in 1986 to 1992. He was sued by prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.

Both were killed in 1992 on the orders of Riina. Because of that, the Italian apparatus worked hard to eradicate the Cosa Nostra group. The officials of the Cosa Nostra mafia were thrown behind bars.
