News24xx.com - The French government will delay the increase in fuel tax, so that the increase in fuel prices in the country is canceled. Previously the increase in fuel prices had caused widespread protests throughout France, even leading to anarchist protests during the month.

Quoting CNBC on Saturday, December 8th 2018, according to a report from one of the French media said that last Tuesday Prime Minister Edouard Philippe would announce a moratorium on increasing fuel taxes. This was done to suppress protests that occurred throughout the country.

The prime minister added that the violence that had befallen France in recent weeks had to stop. According to him, there is no tax that must endanger national unity. "You have to be deaf to not hear the anger of the French people. I delayed for six months, (studying) three fiscal steps including an increase in fuel taxes" he said.

Analyst Charles Lichfield of the Eurasia Group said that the moratorium would not always stop protests. "The government has decided to make small concessions now. This small concession actually gives the demonstrators the impression that they have intimidated the government" he added.

Lichfield assessed that ahead of Tuesday's decision, Macron is seen facing a difficult choice to either reduce his controversial carbon tax or potentially face more problems.
