News24xx.com -  After  a high-speed train hit a railway engine and crashed into a pedestrian overpass at a station in the Turkish capital of Ankara, four people have been killed and 43 injured. The train was en route from Ankara to the central Turkish city of Konya on Thursday morning.

Private NTV television said at least two cars derailed in the accident. Parts of the overpass collapsed on to the train.

The accident occurred around 6.30 am (3.30am GMT) as the train was travelling between Ankara and the central Turkish province of Konya. The Marsandiz station is around five miles from the main Ankara train station.

Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters the crash was caused by the high speed train hitting a locomotive which carries out track inspections.

It was not clear at what speed the trains were travelling when the crash occurred, but it occurred at a station where the Ankara-Konya train does not stop.
