Former lawyer of Donald Trump sentenced to three years imprisonment for violated campaign rules on 2016

News24xx.com - President Donald Trump's personal former attorney, Michael Cohen, was sentenced to three years in prison for masterminding secret payments that violated campaign law before the 2016 elections. Cohen also committed financial crimes that could potentially pose legal and political risks to Trump.

In the courtroom, Cohen told US District Judge William Pauley in Manhattan that his blind loyalty led him to cover Trump's behavior. The sentence made Cohen, a lawyer who once said he would take a bullet for Trump.

Cohen said in his defense in August that he was directed by Trump to pay bribes to two women who said they have had sexual relations with the president in the past. Trump denies his involvement on that matter.

Pauley sentenced Cohen to 36 months for that and two months for Cohen's lie to Congress about the proposed Trump Tower project in Russia. As part of the sentence, the judge ordered Cohen to pay USD 500 thousand and pay compensation of nearly USD 1.4 million.
