Miss Mexico, Vanessa Ponce de Leon crowned as Miss World

News24xx.com - Miss Mexico, Vanessa Ponce de Leon (26) was crowned Miss World during the event in Sanya, Hainan, China, on Saturday.

Vanessa is a model and a volunteer for “Migrantes en el Camino”. She has degree in international business and on the board of directors of rehab centre for girls.

Vanessa was crowned Miss World by Mushi Chhillar, the previous Miss World.

The first runner up was Miss Thailand, Nicolene Pichapa Limsnukan, followed by Miss Belarus, Maria Vasilevich, Miss Jamaica, Kadijah  Robinson and Miss Uganda, Quii Abenakyo.

This was the eight time that Miss World’s final event was held in Sanya. Three years ago, there was a controversy happening. China’s officials stopped that year’s Miss Canada, Anastasia Lin, from boarding the plane to Sanya. They said that she would never get a visa. Anastasia Lin said that it was because of her stance on China’s human rights record.
