News24xx.com - Russian politicians responded to the statement by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that Tokyo isn’t going to evict Russians from the South Kuriles after the transfer of the islands of Japan. About this writes “RIA News.”

State Duma Deputy Anton Morozov noted that Moscow doesn’t consider this territorial issue. “We offered the Japanese side to conclude a peace treaty without any conditions. If they don’t go for it, then it is their choice”, - he said.

Of the dozens of plans outlined, Abe and Putin are ready to realize only one so far.
Senator Franz Klintsevich advised Tokyo to refrain from statements of this kind. According to him, Japan will not get what they want, because in this case we are talking about the security of Russia in the widest sense.

On January 1, Abe said that the transfer of part of the Kuril Islands to Japan should take place with the consent of the people living there.

In November 2018, the press-secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, excluded the automatic transfer of the disputed territories of the Kuril Islands to Japan. According to him, Moscow and Tokyo can compromise if it doesn’t contradict the national interests of either side.

The Japanese side calls the Southern Kuriles "northern territories" and doesn’t recognize Russian sovereignty over them. Moscow, in turn, doesn’t recognize the fact of a territorial dispute, claiming that the islands became part of the USSR following the results of the Second World War.
