These are the thriller films that build fear through the lack of sensory function
News24xx.com - There are many things you can do to make people frightened. In making horror or thriller films, you have to be creative in using different elements. One of the ways to build fear in audience is by the absence of sensory function like vision, hearing, touch, taste, smell and balance. Here are some of the films that make use of the lack of sensory function to cause fear.
1. Bird Box
“Bird Box” is a Netflix film that was released in 2018. The film became popular and had been watched by 45 million people during the first week of the release. The film tells about a mother (Sandra Bullock) and her two children who tried to go through a wood and cross a river to escape from a frightening creature. The three had to wear blindfold to avoid eye-contact with the creature that can cause anyone who looks at it to commit suicide. There are various opinions regarding the film. Some critics think that the film is perfect. Others think that it is not special because of its similarity to “A Quiet Place”.

2. A Quiet Place
If “Bird Box” takes away the characters’ sense of vision, “A Quiet Place” takes away the characters’ sense of speech. The reason is the same: to avoid the attack of a frightening creature. This film directed by John Krasinski got many praises. One of them is from the website that measures the quality of films and TV programs, Rotten Tomatoes. The website gives the film the score 95. The film stars John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. Because of its success, many people predict that the film will be included in the nominations of Oscars 2019. The message that John wants to deliver in this film is to depend on our closest people during difficult times.

3. Hush
Just like “A Quiet Place”, “Hush” (2016) also has a high score in Rotten Tomatoes, which is 92. “Hush” was able to frighten the audience through the character Maddie Young (Kate Siegel), who is deaf. Unlike the previous films, in “Hush”, Maddie was terrorized by a mysterious man. Although it seems ordinary, Maddie’s silent and noiseless world brings a different kind of fear in audience. The director, Mike Flanagan admits that they use the audience’s imagination and camera technique to make the story alive.
