Research found more US high school students used electric cigarette

News24xx.com - Vaping or using electric cigarettes increased by almost 80 percent among high school students and 50 percent in junior high school students in US since last year. This prompted the Food and Drug Administration in the United States to make a new policy on the distribution of these products.

"This data surprised my conscience" said FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb, quoted from CNN. The data made him propose to strengthen the policy on electric cigarette products and request the removal of websites that can be accessed by minors.

Health experts worry that this product can affect children's brain function and make them addicted to nicotine and become a gateway to smoking and even using other drugs. "The data also shows that children who use electric cigarettes will tend to try cigarettes that will risk their future" he said.

Consumers and health experts have debated for a long time about the use of e-cigarettes. Some people consider e-cigarettes as a medium for adults to quit smoking, but health experts think there is no good evidence to support this statement. "We are committed to utilizing our authority that markets this product to children. This is one of our highest priorities" he concluded.
