Wear something black with white stripes on it to reduce your risk of getting bite by mosquitos, study found

News24xx.com - Researchers from Sweden and Hungary learned this after conducting experiments using human doll models. There are three dolls used, the dolls have the color cream, blackish brown, and black with white stripes.

Professor Susanne Akesson from the Department of Biology at Lund University said that the dolls that represent the color of the human body. Black dolls with white stripes represent body paint that is used by indigenous people in the interior.

The result is that brown dolls invite 10 times more mosquitos than black dolls with stripes. Meanwhile the cream colored dolls invite twice as many insects as the black dolls with stripes.

This is what might be the reason why indigenous people used the stripes body paint since the ancient times. When there are no clothes and chemical, body paint provides a kind of protective effect from insect bites.

"The tradition of painting the body has existed long before humans wore clothes. There is a lot of evidence of archeological findings in caves where Neanderthal humans had lived" Susanne said in a campus press release quoted on Friday, January 18th 2019.
