News24xx.com - Facebook adds a feature of political petitions to its social media services today. However, this new feature is only available to users in the United States which are labeled as Community Action features. In Indonesia, people usually made their petition online through the Change.org site.

User-created petitions will later appear in other users' News Feeds. This feature can be used by communities in certain regions to encourage their representatives in the council to make changes. Petitions can also be used to pressure politicians and bureaucrats on the agenda they make.

"Community Action is a way for users to advocate for change in their communities and cooperate with elected officials and government institutions to create solutions" explained a Facebook spokesman, as quoted by CNet.

The petition maker only needs to write a description, mark the relevant political figures, and wait for the results of the poll. Users can see the total number of people who support the petition. But, users can only see the names of their friends or public figures who also support the petition. They cannot see the names of supporters who are not in their friends list.

This feature is launched with an algorithm that will detect if the launched petition contains elements of violence, or racism. Facebook also provides a monitoring team and allows users to report the contents of a petition that is considered to violate the rules of the community.
