The series has become a conversation because it is said to be high budgeted and worked on by a well-known creative team. It took eight years and money of USD 1.7 million per episode to produce Kingdom.

As Yonhap reported, Netflix chose famous screenwriter Kim Eun-hee who was previously involved in making the popular television series Signal (2016) to complete the script, while the director's chair was handed over to Kim Seong-hun who worked on Tunnel (2016).

The film he worked on had hit the South Korean box office when it aired. This is Kim Seong-hun's debut in the series story, the first Kingdom season starring actor JuJi-hoon and actress Bae Doo-na.

The six-episode mystery thriller tells the story of zombies in the Joseon Kingdom in Korea, or the 19th century. A document revealed thousands of deaths in the capital city due to unidentified diseases. In the end, the disease is a zombie virus.

"I started designing this story in 2011. I think the epidemic will be an interesting subject to describe the suffering of the time. In the end, I want to tell about hunger, as human desires that lead to their hunger when they turn into zombies" said script writer Kim Eun-hye, as quoted by Yonhap.
