During the rescue process, the civilians and officers only used a rope. In video that was uploaded by Makassar Info account on Instagram on Tuesday, January 22nd, you can see the people trying to save the baby.

In the video, the civilians are pulling on the rope that is used to save the baby. Some of the brave ones even swim toward the dangerous area to help in the rescue. Only a few of them use tires.

During the process, we can see uniformed officers helping the civilians. Together, they pull the rope which has been tied to where the baby is. The baby is pulled to a safe place and is carried by a police officer.

As cited from Kompas.com, heavy rain followed by strong wind caused Makassar and 6 regencies in South Sulawesi to be flooded. A bridge and a number of civilians’ houses were pulled down by the heavy current, the water coming from Jeneberang River. A large part of Makassar City was flooded with water.

The worst part in Makassar is Paccerakkang Sub-District, where the water level reaches the chest of an adult. Joint team SAR, Regional Disaster Management Agency and the police department are still helping the civilians evacuate.
