Former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres admitted that she has skin cancer

Dayanara Torres Dayanara Torres - Miss Universe 1993, Dayanara Torres (44) revealed that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer. She made the announcement on Instagram, February 4th, which is World Cancer Day.

“Today I have some sad news... I have been diagnosed with skin cancer ‘melanoma’ from a big spot/mole I never paid attention to, even though it was new, it had been growing for years and had an uneven surface,” she said, as cited from Fox News.

According to Skin Cancer Foundation, melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. If treated early, it is curable. But if treated later, it will spread to other parts of the body.

“Now we are waiting to see which treatment I will be receiving but they have already removed a big area from the back of my knees and also they have removed two lymph nodes at the top of my leg where it had already spread. Hoping it has not spread to any more areas or organs. I have put everything in God’s hands and I know he has all control,” Torres said, as cited from Fox News.

Torres said she revealed her story to encourage other people to check themselves before it is too late for them.

“If I can help anyone along the way based on my experience, it would be to tell you... PLEASE, never forget to take care of yourself. If you see something or feel something different in your body have it checked,” she said.
