Turns out, this is the reason why men tends to forget something faster than women in their old age

News24xx.com - A study revealed that women are superior in terms of brains compared to men. The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that women's brains are 3.8 years younger biologically than men's brains. The study involved brain scanning of 205 women and men aged 20-82 years.

In fact, men's brains shrink faster with age than women. Not only that, the metabolism of both brains is different. This might explain why older men experience more decline in memory and language skills than women.

"We are just starting to understand how various sex-related factors can affect the trajectory of brain aging and how it can affect the susceptibility of the brain to neurodegenerative diseases" said Dr Manu Goyal, principal investigator of the University of Washington Medical School in St. Louis, quoted from Daily Mail.

As we age, our brains burn less glucose to strengthen brain development and more to complete daily tasks and mental challenges. Computer algorithms found that women use a higher proportion of glucose to develop their brains and show that their brains are younger.

"Not that man's brains age faster, they start to mature about three years faster than women, and that lasts a lifetime" Manu added. "I think this could mean that the reason women don't experience cognitive decline as much as in their following years is because their brains are effectively younger, and we are currently working on research to confirm that."
