News24xx.com - How old are you? 20 years? 30 years? or 40 years? The more you aged, the greater the responsibility and pressure you felt in your life. Due to that, we are more vulnerable to get stressed and depressed. Be careful, you know, depression can accelerate the aging of our brain. Based on research conducted by scientists at Yale University, it has scanned the brain of depressed people at the age of 40-50 years.

The scan shows the presence of synaptic density or the number of connections in the brain. Quoted from the Daily Mail, synaptic is a connection between neurons that allows information to pass in the brain area. There are around 100 billion neurons in the brain, each connected to other 10,000 neurons.

Lead author Dr Irina Esterlis said that scanning with PET showed that synaptic density was 2-3 percent lower in chronic depressed people. And this makes the brain age to be 10 years older than its actual age.

Worse yet, depression can also trigger earlier memory loss, slowing talk, and even earlier risk of developing age-related diseases such as Alzheimer's. "Depressed people can potentially get worse health condition, and we can see that individuals have density in the hippocampus that might be suffering from Alzheimer's" Esterlis said.
