5 people died and others injured after a mass shooting which occurred in Illinois, US

News24xx.com - Five people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire in an industrial area in Illinois, United States. The gunman was killed by the police not long after that, said a police spokesman. Meanwhile, five officers were shot by the gunman. The attack on Friday, February 15th 2019 took place in Aurora, which is located about 40 miles (65 km) west of Chicago.

The incident occured a day after the one-year commemoration of a shooting incident that took place at a school in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 people. The shooting was reported at Henry Pratt Company, a manufacturing company that made valves for large water pipes. Police called the gunman Gary Martin, 45, whom they called as one of the employees in the company.

Police received a report about an "active shooter" in Aurora on Friday, February 15th 2019 around 13:24 local time, said Aurora police chief, Kristen Ziman during a press conference. They were immediately ‘got shot’ when they arrived at the scene, she said. Ziman added that the rescue task force was quickly deployed to the industrial area, accompanied by emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics.

Chris Southwood from the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police, described Aurora police who got shot as "brave". "These officers and their colleagues did not hesitate to risk their lives today to stop further bloodshed" Southwood said in a statement.
