British scientists have learned to charge phones with urine

News24xx.com - British scientists from the company "Bristol Robotics Lab" invented a new way to use human waste. Experts figured out how to turn urine into electricity.

The use of the new method allows an unusual device consisting of several cylinders filled with special microorganisms that feed on elements contained in wastewater and urine. By consuming waste, microbes produce electrons, which can later be used as a source for generating electricity.

As explained one of the researchers, Yannis Hieropoulus, these microorganisms literally “eat waste because it is their favorite dish”. Each device can hold up to two liters of urine; from this volume, microbes produce 30-40 milliwatts. Of course, today, the amount of received electrical energy is quite small, but soon it will be possible to charge phones, laptops and other gadgets from such a device. At the same time, American scientists achieved the interaction of light rays at room temperature.
