After failed in 2014 General Election, KPU aims for 77.5 percent voter turnout in 2019

News24xx.com -  Ahead the election on April 17 2019, the General Elections Commission (KPU) is aiming for 77.5 percent voter turnout during the upcoming general election. Because in the 2014 presidential election, however, the KPU failed to reach its 70 percent benchmark despite numerous efforts by the commission.

Anggri Ramadhan, a Bengkalis KPU commissioner said for that aim, the commission had raised awareness on the importance of voting at college campuses. They hope, the people can use their voting rights in the 2019 election.

"We are spreading awareness, so that people can use their voting rights in the 2019 election as we aim to reach the KPU's target of 77.5 percent voter turnout," Anggi said on Sunday as quoted by Antara.

Anggi also said that the necessary materials had arrived in the Riau province region.

The same optimism was also expressed across the nation, including by the Jakarta administration, which expects more than 76 percent voter turnout, following the high level of participation in its 2017 gubernatorial election.

Meanwhile, the 2019 general election will mark the first ever election where voters will choose a president and members of the legislature for the 2019-2024 term, simultaneously.
