Scientists estimate that every fourth pregnancy is interrupted. The threat of miscarriage is especially true for women who have become pregnant in middle age. Experts in the course of the research have found that a hormone level can indicate an existing threat. In order to test this theory, more than two thousand women were monitored for pregnancy. The researchers were interested in the level of human chorionic gonadotropin produced by placental cells and responsible for feeding the egg.

Scientists said that if a woman’s pregnancy is uneventful, the level of this specific hormone quickly rises in the first trimester. The higher the level of the hormone - the less likely the miscarriage. It turned out that the successful outcome of pregnancy depends on this compound by 86%.
