Diver showed the ocean full of trash in Bali

Plastic, plastic, plastic...Plastic, plastic, plastic...

News24xx.com - Rich Horner posted on his Facebook page an scary video of his dive off the coast of the Indonesian tourist resort of Bali.

The diver floated through the garbage from plastic waste and food packaging. Only sometimes he met underwater inhabitants. Shots were taken near the island of Nusa Penida, about 20 km from Bali. Horner wrote to the video that this “wonderful gift” of jellyfish and plankton, as well as plastic placers, brought ocean currents.

“Plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic cups, plastic buckets, plastic straws, plastic baskets ... plastic, plastic, plastic. So much plastic! ”- Rich Horner.

Later, he noted that the next day, the current carried away all the garbage, which, nevertheless, will continue its journey, breaking up into smaller parts, but never disappearing.

Horner recalled how trash enters the ocean: mainly through stormwater in coastal cities. It is usually brought by currents from the neighboring island of Java during the annual rainy season, or, as it is also called, the “junk” season.

Also, most of the garbage people throw directly into the water from the shore and boats.

Measures such as recycling and more rarely or reusing plastic bags help to cope with the problem, but don’t eliminate its causes, namely overcrowding.

At the same time, according to the diver, when the next day he returned to the dive site, there was no more plastic spot - it continued its way into the Indian Ocean.
