News24xx.com -  A man named Kevin Smitham who allegedly murdered his wife because she wouldn’t have sex with him has died in prison.

Kevin Smitham’s body was discovered at Ubon Ratchathani Central Prison, in Thailand last August.

Smitham, 51, from Nottingham, was found with fatal injuries close to an outbuilding on the perimeter of the prison and died later in prison. His death remains a mystery with authorities unable to figure out how he got hurt.

Smitham was awaiting trial for the murder of his Thai wife Kandra Smitham, 29. The couple, who had two young children together, had been staying with Mrs Smitham’s parents in Ubon Ratchathani, in the northeast of the country, for the Songkran New Year festival. He was accused of strangling and kicking her to death and then covering her body and going to bed. Shocked neighbours found her body under a blanket the next day.

Inspector General Watcharapol Pimwong, who was one of the first officers on the scene of the murder, said, "The victim’s husband confessed to killing his wife. He and his wife had beer until late at night. He went to sleep in the house. During the drinking and eating, suddenly they started arguing because he wanted to have sex."

His wife refused and this caused jealousy. He thought that the wife had been courting other men.

The couple had lived together in the popular beach resort of Pattaya on the east coast.
