News24xx.com - Ryusuke Sekiya might be a happy baby now, after months of being 'confined' in a hospital, the smallest baby in the world finally went out of the outside world at the end of last week. Sekiya was born weighing 258 grams, equivalent to 9.1 ounces, his body height only 22 centimeters.

As a result of his tiny body, which was only as heavy as an apple, Sekiya had to undergo neonatal intensive care at Nagano Children's Hospital, Japan, for months. "When he was born, he was very small. It felt like he could be broken just because of a small touch. I was very worried about him at that time" said his mother, Toshiko, told AFP.

Sekiya was born through a cesarean section on October 1st 2018. Sekiya's birth occurred after Toshiko was pregnant for 24 weeks and 5 days. The operation was forced to do due to hypertension that Toshiko suffered. Unlike most babies, Sekiya eats through a tube. He also got breast milk through rubbing cotton into her mouth.

For almost seven months of intensive care, Sekiya's weight gradually rose to more than 3 kilograms. "Now he [Sekiya] can drink milk through his mouth. We can bathe him. I'm glad to see her grow" Toshiko said. Birth of a small baby is in fact a rare thing that happened in the world. The last smallest baby known still alive today is living in Germany. The little girl was born in 2015 and weighs 252 grams.
