Bringing onigiri filled with chicken into Taiwan, Malaysia man was fined for almost IDR 14 million

News24xx.com - The ban on bringing meat-containing food to Taiwan has long been encated in that country. A series of dishes containing chicken, mutton, lamb, pork and beef are not allowed to enter Taiwan without further examination.

But there are still many tourists who forget about this rule and accidentally bring the dish containing the meat there. Again, tourists from Malaysia were forced to spend more in the airport because they accidentally brought two pieces of chicken-filled onigiri.

Reported by World of Buzz, on May 15th 2019, a Malaysian man named Tan (not his real name) said that he traveled to Kaohsiung, Taiwan with three friends on May 8. Before flying, Tan accidentally brought two pieces of chicken-filled onigiri and two pieces of fish-filled onigiri into the plane.

Unfortunately, he forgot to spend the lunch in the plane and made those onigiri were brought to Taiwan. As soon as the plane landed, Tan casually queues on the lane which is reserved for passengers without required goods to report. Once inspected, the Taiwan Customs Office found two pieces of chicken onigiri owned by Tan. In accordance with regulations, Tan must pay a fine of TWD 30,000 or almost IDR 14 million.

Tan and three of his friends were finally forced to pay the total fine at the location. It is not without reason the Taiwan government set this regulation. The regulation was made to prevent the spread of diseases from abroad to Taiwan.
