These are the rice dishes that you can only find in Indonesia

Even rice, or “nasi” in Indonesia, which is considered a common food in Indonesia, is cooked differently all over the country. There are many different types of rice dishes that you can only find in Indonesia. Here are some of them:

1.       Nasi Uduk

Nasi uduk is cooked with coconut milk. This type of rice dish comes from Betawi culture.

2.       Nasi Timbel

Nasi timbel comes from Sundanese culture. It uses red rice, wrapped in banana leaf.

3.       Nasi Kuning

As its name suggests, nasi kuning is yellow-colored. It is cooked with turmeric, coconut milk and spices.

4.       Nasi Liwet

Nasi liwet, which comes from Solo, is cooked with pandan leaves, bay leaves and other kinds of seasoning. It is cooked in a kettle or a boiler.

5.       Nasi Tutug Oncom

Nasi tutug oncom comes from Tasikmalaya. It is actually similar to ordinary rice, but it is mixed with oncom, a kind of fermented food.

6.       Nasi Megono

Nasi megono comes from Central Java. It is mixed with grated coconut and young jackfruit.

7.       Nasi Jagung

Nasi jagung is usually found in Central Java or East Java. It is not rice mixed with corn, but corn that is cooked to look like rice.

8.       Nasi Tim

Nasi tim is actually a mix of Indonesian and Chinese culture. Chicken meat that has been mixed with garlic and salty soy sauce, is put on top of rice and steamed together.
