News24xx.com - The Russian government is reportedly preparing new rules to punish people who think that HIV-AIDS is not real. This rule is made due to the rise of conspiracy theories among social media users.

Reported by the Daily Mail, some Russians lately have been busy spreading false information that said that HIV-AIDS is fake and deliberately made by pharmaceutical companies. And the impact is people who believed about that stop doing treatment for their condition and people who don’t attact those diseases yet become more careless and do not protect themselves when having sex.

The chairman of the Federal Aids Center Vadim Pokrovsky described the situation as a national disaster. Because of this false information, the rate of HIV infection is increasing with the latest data saying there are more than 100,000 new cases in Russia last year. Therefore the government plans to give punishment for people who spread the fake news about HIV-AIDS. The plan is anyone who spread the info will be fined.

"This problem is getting serious, and with the increasing spread of HIV in Russia this is dangerous for our citizen" the Russian Ministry of Health was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail, on Tuesday, May 20th 2019. But some parties such as Anton Krasovsky from the Independent AIDS Center regretted the plan of the Russian government to give a fine for considered being too harsh.

According to him, it is better to approach people who don’t believe on HIV-AIDS by providing them the knowledge about the disease. "Many of those who live with HIV have psychological problems. They are in denial. But the government is always trying to solve problems by punishing people who need their help" Anton said.
