Kaspersky Lab released research that found that 33 percent of former employees who had left the company still had access to the data of the company. Kaspersky considers this to be the huge risk for company if the former employee misused the data.

The risk of data misused can occur because workers who are no longer active status remain uninterrupted from company email services, instant messaging applications, and Google documents.

Head of B2B Product Marketing at Kaspersky Lab, Sergey Marstsynkyan said former employees can also use this data for personal purposes in new workplaces. Even former employees can accidentally delete or damage data.

For small companies that are active and in the process of being efficient and competitive, this situation is very undesirable, because the data recovery will require time and effort. Even though the time and effort should be allocated for more valuable business needs.

"Messaging digital data and uncontrolled data access can sometimes cause violations and incidents in the cyberspace, in most cases, it is likely to cause disruption to work in the company, time and energy is wasted due to recovering the lost files" Sergey said, on Tuesday, May 21st 2019.
