Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, the human body is a good conductor of electricity. Contact with an electric current can be fatal because it produces heat that burns and destroys body tissues.

The mechanism of an accident due to electrocution involves cardiac arrest due to the effect of electricity on the heart, destruction of muscles, nerves, and tissues due to electrical currents that pass through the body, as well as burns due to contact with a power source.
