News24xx.com -  In India, exam stress is one of the major reasons for depression and suicide in teenagers.

Student life is supposed to be a relatively happy period of life, devoid of problems and responsibilities. However, this assumption is far from reality, because often, grades and marks end up becoming more important than someone's life, or so they are made to believe.

To make matters worse, at times, even parents are unable to understand the pressure their children are faced with, and end up adding to the burden by expecting them to do nothing less than ace the examination.

Unfortunately, not everyone can take the pressure, and some people end up taking extreme steps if the results are not in their favour.

In a recent case, three girls from Tamil Nadu committed suicide after failing to crack the medical entrance exam NEET (National Eligibility Enterance Test). After the results of the exam were declared on June 5, they took the extreme step within the two days following the announcement.

The suicides have prompted the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu to strongly pitch the idea of exempting the state from the test. They have been demanding exemption from NEET for the last two years.

According to PTI, an 18-year-old girl from the fishing community was found hanging in her house near Villupuram, 170 km from Chennai. M Monisha allegedly committed suicide after she could not crack the exam for the second time this year.

"She could not succeed in her previous attempt last year and the girl this year has got a very low score in NEET," a district police official told PTI.

Monisha had completed her Class 12 from a reputed school in Erode district, according to PTI. She belonged to a fishermen community and studied really hard for a year and was sad due to her failure, a police official said.
