News24xx.com - Researchers at the University of Georgia in Athens found that adults who stressed out of work show strains of unhealthy behaviour that causes weight gain. Quoted from Health Line, this study was conducted on nearly one thousand women and men who worked full time.

The result, workers with a heavier workload will more often do overeating. In addition, they also tend to prefer high-fat foods. Plus, they exercise less often, making them have the potential to gain weight.

"It makes perfect sense that chronic stress from work could manifest in negative health behaviours and habits. Psychology and the human body have a limited amount of energy. When energy is almost gone, the body's system cannot function in optimal capacity” said clinical psychologist Carla Marie Manly, PhD.

She added, about diet and exercise habits, workers who feel excessive stress will feel very lethargic and conscious or unconscious thinking that they are tired and do not have time to exercise. When this cycle repeats, unhealthy behaviour will become a habit.

Stress in the workplace itself has been classified as a disease by the World Health Organization (WHO). Most stress is due to the inability of workers to meet the job demand, which plays a significant role in their health according to the study.
