News24xx.com - Canada is planning to start selling cannabis-containing food in mid-December in a number of stores after it was legalized last year. Besides processed food, Canada will also sell marijuana extract. Questioning several types of processed foods, Canada ensures that later processed variants of marijuana will be adjusted to market tastes.

Nevertheless, the government ensures that it will not include marijuana in food products for children. "The rule amendment [regarding the legalization of marijuana] is a further step to reduce public health and safety risks from the use of marijuana to eliminate illegal marketing" said one government official, Bill Blair in a statement as reported by AFP.

The new rule notes that foods and beverages that can be marketed contain marijuana no more than 10 milligrams of THC (the main psychoactive compound in marijuana). While for cannabis extract it is set to a maximum of 1,000 mg per package. Especially for consumers who are trying their first food or drink containing marijuana, the government recommends limiting the maximum content of 2.5 mg THC.

The Canadian Ministry of Health explains the effect of using new marijuana can be digested by the body within two hours - much longer than inhaled which only takes seconds to minutes.

Since it is being legalized on October 17, 2018, it is estimated that there are 5.4 million Canadians who buy marijuana since then. The government recorded that 600 thousand of them are known as firsttime consuming marijuana after being legalized by the government.
