News24xx.com - Former Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi died after collapsed in a courtroom in Cairo, Egypt. Egyptian state television station said the cause of Mursi's death is a heart attack. As reported by the Reuters news agency on Tuesday, June 18th 2019, according to the Egyptian state television station quoting medical sources, Mursi died due to sudden heart attack during a hearing on Monday, June 17th 2019.

The source added that Mursi, who suffered from a benign tumor, had continued to get medical treatment continuously. Mursi died at the age of 67 after collapsing behind the defendant's cage in the courtroom. He fell unconscious when he was tried in a case of spy charges and soon died.

"After the case was suspended, he passed out and died. His body was then taken to hospital" the Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram reported. At that time, Mursi was tried on charges of spying for the Hamas group.

Mursi reportedly fainted shortly after giving a statement in court in a spy case related to his alleged contact with Hamas, which had close ties with the Muslim Brotherhood. Mursi talked for about five minutes behind a soundproof glass wall cage, which officials said was designed to prevent him from interfering with the trial process.
