News24xx.com - Turns out, rarely wash your towels can endanger your health, from transmitting fungi, bacteria, to infections. "The longer the towel is damp, the longer the fungus, bacteria, mosses and viruses live and produce in the towel" said dermatologist Dr. Alok Vij, as quoted by the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Vij explained that by using towel that is rarely washed can cause us to get fungus in our toenails, red rashes and warts in our body or even other skin problems, and also dirty towels can cause more severe eczema or atopic dermatitis.

Added by Dr. Chuck Gerba, professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona, rubbing the body with a dirty towel can cause infection. Especially when we rub the body too hard to the point we damage our skin. This wounded skin can give access to bacteria to get into our body.

"If you are easily getting acne, wash your towel every time you finish using the towel. When we use a towel and wipe it on the face with a dirty towel, especially if there is open scar in our face due to the acne, bacteria can enter the skin and make the acne worse" added Philip Tierno, PhD, professor clinical pathology and microbiology at NYU School of Medicine, as quoted by MSN.

And for the tips for washing towels are to wash them once a week and if you use a towel to dry out your face wash it more often like 2-3 times a week, and wash it more often if your home area is very moist and hot.
