News24xx.com - Unlucky for this British man, his bathing habits caused him to suffer a severe eye infection to the point where the infection made one of his eyes goes blind.

Nick Humphreys from Shropshire, England, suffered from this infection because he always used his contact lenses when taking a shower. In 2018, he was exposed to Acanthamoeba keratitis, a rare parasite that infected his cornea.

"If I know how dangerous it is to wear contact lenses while bathing, I will never do it," said the man quoted from Live Science on July 18, 2019.

Acanthamoeba is a single-celled amoeba commonly found in water, soil and air. Contact lens wearers are at risk of contracting this infection if they do certain practices, such as cleaning the lens with tap water or swimming or bathing while wearing it.

After being diagnosed with Acanthamoeba keratitis in early 2018, Humphreys was given eye drops for the infection. But a few months later he suddenly went blind on his right eye.

Even though he had undergone surgery for the corneal tissue in his right eye and the infection was cleared, the function of Humphreys's right eye remained irrevocable.
