News24xx.com -  Bank Mandiri is reporting it has filed a police report against an online news site for allegedly publishing fake news about the bank.

Sr. VP of corporate secretary Rohan Hafas went to Jakarta Police on August 14, reporting FNN.co.id for publishing an article that said the bank had experienced bankruptcy.

"That story is 100% false," Rohan stated.

The article claimed that Mandiri experienced a cyber attack that caused a loss of Rp9 trillion, linking it with the system error incident on July 20. The article also claimed that the cyber attack forced Mandiri to sell the company to the Chinese government.

Rohan said that the article caused concerns among Mandiri customers, many of which contacted the bank asking for clarification.

"This may be the first time Bank Mandiri has been a victim of hoaxes and we don't want this," Rohan said.

Jakarta Metro Police PR chief Comr. Argo Yuwono said he had received Bank Mandiri's report and reviewed the reporter's information. "We will conduct an investigation and provide information about the reported party, witnesses and the pieces of evidence," Argo said.
