News24xx.com - A 12 year old girl from Florida, the United States based on recent reports in JAMA Journal of Ophthalmology indicated that the girl’s retina was damaged after a minute looking at the sun directly.


Called as solar retinopathy, this condition occurs when sunlight enters through the lens of the eye becomes intensely focused and burn the retina. Imagine like using a magnifying glass to focus the rays to a single point produces high heat."Events like this can make the vision so blurred or cause blind spots in one or both eyes," said Dr. Kara Cavuoto of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute as cited from Live Science, Tuesday (22/8).


In the case of the girl, she is known to have the condition of glaucoma (increased pressure on the eyeball) so that his eyesight was already disturbed. Therefore, according to the team doctor,she possibily so much less sensitive to light glare looked at the sun for a long time.


Dr. Kara said there are people who can return their sight though not 100 percent but there is also the experience permanent damage. To this girl case, even though it has done the repair effort, but her sight still could not recover.


According to Dr. Kara, solar retinopathy more commonly occurs when a solar eclipse. Because the moon's shadow covered the sun, so people feel they can see directly but actually there is still dangerous light.
